When Apex Legends has a less toxic enviornment then Overwatch (Both being competitive team based FPS) it speaks volumes about where things stand. I'm interested in discussing the state of the community and the impacts it has due to the cultural shift. Stay classy my guys, the fact we can't have a productive conversation about the state of Overwatch's community is a sad sign of the times.Įdit 2: To clarify, this has nothing to do with anyone saying "Diff" to me. "Bro got diffed so hard he wrote a whole rant about that" "Sounds like someone got just diffed" The beauty of this game is teamwork, and the teams have now become the worst aspect of OW2.Įdit: The first comments just exemplify the exact point. The second someone starts openly insulting their team, it's almost always a done deal and an easy victory on our side. I have made a habit of calling people out when they act this way to their own teammates or someone on my team, but its a losing battle. Anecdotally, nearly 95% of my tank games start and end with some form of verbal abuse.Īt the end of the day, all the current culture does is perpetuate hate in a pathetic attempt to shield fragile egos from accepting accountability for their play. This is also an excepted norm, as I often get comments on how its rare to see a doom in chat or voice due to the sheer volume of abuse levied at them. Refusing to leave spawn, refusing to heal / shoot, throwing themselves off the map endlessly. I have a 54% winrate despite the countless games people intentional throw due to my tank of choice. I picked up Doom last week and managed to climb to low diamomd high plat in a few days. The social contract that currently exists in OW2 is that it is now acceptable to openly shit on someone during or at the end of every match, your team or otherwise.Īs an aside, the toxicity isn't limited to the aformentioned instances. But realistically it boils down to being the now accepted norm that gets perpetuated every match. This can be attributed to a number of factors or excuses, like the absence of the old scorecards, the game going f2p, or the current MM. Were heals absolutely just bangin'? Tank diff. Did the tank apply adaquate pressure and make space for the Tracer? DPS diff. Did the DPS peel for the healers? Support diff. The idea of a "diff" is entirely reductive as the total sum of a win or loss is the culmination of the entire teams actions. ![]() Every match ends with squarely pointing at someone on either team to blame the entire loss on. The current state of Overwatch is by far the most toxic and hostile it's ever been. ![]()
